eSIM Service

What is eSIM?

eSIM is a digital SIM that enables you to activate mobile plans from telecommunications providers. With devices that support eSIM cards, customers don't need to physically insert a card themselves. They only need to apply for a phone number and plan at a myfone store, and they can start using it through Over-the-Air (OTA) activation.

Applicable object

Users of Taiwan Mobile, original T-STAR users, and users who have applied for or transferred to Taiwan Mobile plans. (Currently, prepaid card users from the original T-STAR are temporarily not eligible for eSIM)

Reminder

  1. Dual SIM: By using eSIM service, when traveling abroad, you can place the local SIM card into the physical SIM card slot, achieving the purpose of dual SIM card usage on one device.
  2. Supports: VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, and international roaming functionality.
  3. The eSIM plan contracts are no different from existing physical SIM contracts. Currently, all device purchases and single-number plans can be paired with eSIM plans. The contents of relevant promotions are primarily based on the 4G/5G tariffs selected by users at the time of application, and include services such as internet access, voice calls, and text messaging.
  4. Device replacement and number change: The process and fees are the same as replacing a physical SIM card at current stores.
  5. The procedures for various services, functions, applications, changes, cancellations, terminations, etc., are generally similar for both eSIM and physical SIM card in terms of transaction processes.
  6. For existing users with physical SIM cards who wish to switch to eSIM, the application, activation, setup procedures, and fees are the same as replacing a physical SIM card at current stores. However, for replacing eSIM with another eSIM, you will need to visit a physical store to complete the process.
  7. If a user's phone requires repair, they should first navigate to Settings ➔ General ➔ Reset and perform "Erase All Content and Settings." After the repair, they need to perform a SIM card replacement operation again, without incurring any SIM replacement fees.
  8. The "eSIM One Number" service for Apple Watch is a different category of product service.
  9. Transferring eSIM data to a new phone: Users must visit a myfone store to apply for the eSIM conversion process and obtain a new QR Code. Scan the QR Code on the new phone and complete the setup. Once the conversion process is complete, the eSIM can be used. For any inquiries, please contact store staff or call the customer service hotline.
  10. In the scenario of iPhone dual SIM dual standby, both the physical SIM card and eSIM are actively on standby simultaneously, and only one mobile data network can be used at a time. For instance, if you are currently using the number associated with SIM card A for a call, and someone tries to call you on the number associated with SIM card B, you won't receive the call, and it will be directed to the voicemail of your telecommunications provider. While one SIM card is engaged in a voice call, the other SIM card cannot be used for voice or data services.
  11. For the Apple Watch Series 3 and 4 (GPS+Cellular), there is only one IMEI address, so it can only be associated with one phone number. When the Apple Watch is within Bluetooth range or using the same Wi-Fi network as the paired iPhone, it can receive incoming calls for both numbers. However, if the iPhone is not nearby and only the Apple Watch is being used, it can only receive calls for the number associated with the One Number service linked to that specific Apple Watch.
  12. When performing 'Erase All Content and Settings,' please select 'Erase All and Keep Plan' to retain the eSIM. If you choose 'Erase All,' the eSIM will not be retained, and you'll need to reapply and download it to restore mobile communication. If sending the phone for repair, do not keep the plan to prevent unauthorized use of the number.
  13. Performing the "Remove Cellular Plan" operation on the phone is akin to discarding the SIM card manually. Regardless of whether the phone number is actively being used, the monthly fee for the number will continue to be charged. If you no longer require the use of that phone number, you must still visit a myfone direct-operated store in person to terminate the subscription for the number.
  14. The eSIM setup fee is $300. The eSIM setup fee waiver scenarios include: ◆First-time application for eSIM ◆First-time issuance of eSIM ◆New device purchase or contract renewal ◆Taiwan Mobile users repairing their phones at a Taiwan Mobile store ◆VIP users
  15. Supported eSIM models: Applicable eSIM models and software versions, etc., are subject to the announcements on the official websites of each mobile phone brand. For iPhone 14 and later models purchased in the United States, ensure that they are unlocked versions and compatible with the required bands. Chinese version of Apple devices can only install foreign eSIM when traveling outside of China. In China, Taiwan Mobile eSIM cannot be installed on Chinese version of Apple devices. For usage restrictions and regulations of iPhone models sold in various regions, please refer to the announcements on the official iPhone website.
  16. If you accidentally lose a phone using eSIM, the process for reporting loss is the same as for physical SIM cards. Please immediately call the loss reporting hotline: (02)6606-2995. If you are abroad, please dial +886-2-6606-2995.
