Taiwan Mobile Declaration on Biodiversity Conservation and No
Deforestation
At Taiwan Mobile (hereinafter "TWM"), we recognize the importance of biodiversity
conservation and no deforestation. We are committed to developing and implementing
Group-level best practices for biodiversity conservation and no deforestation, both in our
own operations and in conjunction with our value chain, including tier-1 critical suppliers
and non-tier-1 critical suppliers.
This Declaration covers the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 7
Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 12
Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 14 Life below Water, SDG 15 Life on Land, and
SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals.
Specific commitments:
In order to fulfill the biodiversity and no deforestation related commitments, the
Company is committed not to conduct operations, sales, and other operational activities
at or near sites containing globally or nationally important biodiversity, and requires
upstream and downstream value chain partners/ critical suppliers relating to TWM's
operations to endorse and jointly comply.
In case of emergency relief and national infrastructure needs, exceptions are made for
the construction of telecommunications infrastructure at or near sites containing
globally or nationally important biodiversity, and their constructions shall comply with
the National Parks Law, the Forestry Act, or mandatory standards.
In accordance with Article 2, the necessary implementation methods for base station
construction are as follows:
Any installation of base stations in rural areas and mountainous forest trails
must pass the environmental impact assessment in accordance with the relevant
regulations of government agencies, such as the National Parks Law and the
Forestry Act, and must confirm to apply mitigation hierarchy methods when
operating in areas in close proximity to critical biodiversity.
Committed to no net loss (NNL) by ensuring the impact on biodiversity caused by
moving, placement and construction of the base station construction could be
compensated by soil backfilling, pruning and transplanting trees on the site
Base stations are built in an environmentally friendly manner to avoid damaging
the ecosystem of local animals and plants
Committed to choosing metropolitan area as the prioritized location when building a new
Cloud IDC to fulfill TWM's commitment to protect biodiversity and no deforestation.
Committed to comply with relevant government laws and regulations when constructing
renewable energy facilities to ensure to protect biodiversity and no deforestation.
Ensure that TWM's own operations and its value chain, including tier-1 critical
suppliers and non-tier-1 critical suppliers, comply with the National Parks Law, the
Forestry Act or mandatory standards, etc., and are regularly monitored by the
Group-level Environmental Management Committee to fulfill its commitment to protect
biodiversity and no deforestation.
Committed to consulting, engaging or working in cooperation with external partners
related to biodiversity (such as NGOs, experts and scholars) to fulfill the requirements
related to the protection of biodiversity and to manage and mitigate deforestation risks
in the corporate operation activities of TWM Group.
KPI
We have made a voluntary commitment of sourcing 100% deforestation free paper
products by the year 2030. All paper or paper products should be certified by FSC(Forest
Stewardship Council ,FSC) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification,
PEFC). We have 97% of annual Purchase are certified at the end of 2022.
Eco-pond Implement
TWM's Headqaurter set where as Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, we implement
the eco-pond to maintain and conserve the local biodiversity and ecosystems.
