Taiwan Mobile Partners with Samsan Enterprise and Far East Medical Electronics Technology to Launch One-Stop Maritime Satellite Communications Solution

When offshore patrols, maritime rescue operations, or disaster response missions encounter areas beyond terrestrial network coverage, severe weather, or communication disruptions, satellite communications become a critical backup for maintaining ship-to-shore connectivity, location tracking, and mission coordination. Taiwan Mobile today (July 7) announced a strategic partnership with Samsan Enterprise, which has more than 30 years of experience in satellite operations and serves over 3,000 ocean-going vessels worldwide, together with Far East Medical Electronics Technology Limited (FEMET) to deliver a one-stop maritime satellite communications solution that strengthens Taiwan’s communications resilience.

 

The partnership focuses on multi-orbit satellite bandwidth technology, integrating Ku-band (12–18 GHz) and L-band (1–2 GHz) satellite connectivity for applications including ocean-going vessels, personal satellite communication devices, and vehicle-mounted mobile satellite communication systems. Taiwan Mobile, Samsan Enterprise, and FEMET will integrate geostationary (GEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks with onboard terminals, shore-based platforms, and operational support services. The solution is designed to maintain backup communications, vessel position reporting, and command-and-control capabilities during offshore missions, even in severe weather or when terrestrial networks are unavailable. The partnership also incorporates cybersecurity assessment procedures developed by the Institute for Information Industry (III) and works with engineering teams certified to IPC-A-610 Class 3 aerospace and defense standards to establish a partner ecosystem that supports AI-enabled, cross-domain applications for unmanned vessels, drones, and Satellite IoT across maritime, land, and aerial operations.

 

Taiwan Mobile Chief Enterprise Business Officer Shing Chu said satellite communications are a fundamental component of national communications resilience and disaster preparedness, as well as an essential capability for maritime and public safety. In recent years, Taiwan Mobile has continued expanding its non-terrestrial network (NTN) strategy, including signing a memorandum of understanding with AST SpaceMobile to promote direct-to-satellite services for standard smartphones and further strengthen its integrated space-air-ground communications capabilities. Through this collaboration, Taiwan Mobile leverages its core telecommunications network, resilient satellite-terrestrial communications backup capabilities, enterprise and government system integration expertise, and help customers establish an end-to-end communications architecture spanning onboard systems, satellite links, and shore-based management. When missions require continuous transmission of positioning data, video, equipment status, and command information, multiple satellite links can work seamlessly with shore-based systems to reduce communication risks in offshore environments.

 

Samsan Enterprise Chairman Samson Chou said the company has accumulated more than three decades of experience in the satellite communications industry, serving over 3,000 ocean-going vessels worldwide with comprehensive expertise in fleet communications, onboard terminal equipment, satellite antenna deployment, and multinational operational support. The company will provide maritime connectivity services through networks including OneWeb, Iridium, and Starlink. Together with Taiwan Mobile and FEMET, the partnership will provide a one-stop service covering equipment deployment, satellite connectivity, platform integration, and ongoing operational support.

 

FEMET Chairman Nemo Deng said the company will serve as the satellite communications system integrator, helping connect onboard communication terminals, satellite transmission links, data transmission workflows, and shore-based mission management systems. The integrated approach will reduce the complexity of connecting different devices, networks, and platforms while supporting more efficient deployment of maritime satellite communication services.
