Demonstrating its leadership in AI innovation and sustainable development, Taiwan Mobile participated in MWC 2026 under the leadership of President Jamie Lin. On March 3, Taiwan Mobile and its long-term strategic partner Nokia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on AI Mobile Network and New ESG Cooperation, announcing an expanded collaboration that integrates AI technologies across three strategic dimensions—Energy, Security, and Geostrategy—to build a highly resilient and sustainable "ESG 2.0" mobile network.
The collaboration advances both AI for Network and Network for AI initiatives. Taiwan Mobile plans to evaluate Nokia's next-generation AI Baseband solution, jointly developed with NVIDIA and built on the ARC (Aerial RAN Computer) platform. Leveraging GPU acceleration and AI computing capabilities, the solution is designed to enhance real-time RAN decision-making and resource orchestration, laying a critical foundation for the evolution toward AI-native mobile networks.
Against the backdrop of growing geopolitical uncertainty and climate change, Taiwan Mobile and Nokia will leverage AI-RAN architecture to deliver greater network autonomy and resilience through three key initiatives:
AI for Energy: Taiwan Mobile will upgrade its existing Nokia MantaRay SON platform to support the Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) architecture, enabling AI-driven prediction and optimization of network energy consumption for greater power efficiency. In 2025 alone, Taiwan Mobile reduced wireless network electricity consumption by an additional 24 million kWh, equivalent to the average monthly electricity usage of approximately 69,000 Taiwanese households.
AI for Security: AI capabilities will be deployed across mobile networks, fixed-line infrastructure, and data centers to analyze signal characteristics and abnormal connections in real time, accurately identifying and blocking rogue base stations and malicious devices while strengthening end-to-end cybersecurity protection.
AI for Geostrategy: Taiwan Mobile and Nokia will jointly develop AI Edge Survivability technology for extreme operating environments. Even if transmission links are disrupted, base stations will continue supporting localized point-to-point communications. AI will also proactively predict transmission quality degradation and automatically trigger backup switching before failures occur, ensuring uninterrupted communications.

Under the ESG 2.0 framework, the Geostrategy pillar focuses on enhancing the autonomy and resilience of mobile networks in extreme environments and unpredictable situations.
At the core of this initiative is the development of AI Edge Survivability technology. In the event of transmission link failures, base stations will continue providing localized point-to-point communications within their coverage areas, ensuring essential connectivity during emergencies.
At the same time, Taiwan Mobile and Nokia will leverage the self-healing and traffic steering capabilities of the Nokia MantaRay SMO architecture. By using AI to predict transmission quality degradation before physical failures occur, the network can proactively initiate traffic orchestration and backup switching, enabling seamless failover and significantly improving overall communications resilience against unexpected incidents and operational risks.
To further accelerate AI-RAN deployment, Nokia will also provide its latest AI-enabled base station solutions to support Taiwan Mobile's expansion of AI-powered radio networks in live commercial environments. Combined with AI solutions such as Digital Twin and the Nokia Assurance Center, the collaboration will continue improving network quality and operational efficiency while accelerating the transition toward a highly automated network operating model.
