Taiwan Mobile and BMW Group Launch Taiwan’s First 5G “One Number for Car” Service

March 13,2025

Taiwan Mobile today (March 13) announced a collaboration with the BMW Group to introduce Taiwan’s first 5G “One Number for Car” service, becoming the first telecom operator in Taiwan to extend mobile number connectivity into smart vehicles. Powered by personal eSIM technology, the service enables users to make calls and use mobile data in supported BMW models using their existing mobile number—even when their smartphone is not on hand.

BMW’s flagship models equipped with the Theatre Screen further enhance the in-car experience by offering access to streaming platforms such as Netflix and Disney+, allowing passengers to enjoy rich multimedia content on the go. The in-car Wi-Fi hotspot supports up to 10 devices simultaneously. Users can activate the service via the My BMW App or other BMW Group applications. First-time subscribers can enjoy waived activation and download fees.

Taiwan Mobile Advances Smart Mobility Strategy with 5G Leadership

Tony Lin, Chief Consumer Business Officer of Taiwan Mobile, stated: “In 2023, we officially launched our ‘Mobile to Mobility’ strategy to expand our core telecom capabilities into the smart mobility space. With a strong focus on 5G applications, IoV, and intelligent transportation, Taiwan Mobile is enabling seamless integration of communication technology into every aspect of modern mobility.

The launch of the ‘One Number for Car’ service marks a significant step forward in our transformation. By leveraging our exclusive 100MHz of 3.5GHz golden-band 5G spectrum, we provide users with a high-performance in-car communication experience—one that combines connectivity, convenience, and entertainment. Vehicles are becoming more than just transportation—they’re evolving into mobile lifestyle spaces. Taiwan Mobile will continue to deepen our Taiwan Mobility strategy, driving the convergence of telecom and smart mobility to shape a more intelligent future.”

Seamless Integration with BMW Personal eSIM for a Smarter Driving Experience

The “One Number for Car” service extends a user’s existing Taiwan Mobile number to select BMW Group vehicles through the optional personal eSIM function. Even when the user’s smartphone is not present, calls and mobile data services remain accessible via the vehicle’s built-in system.

Supported BMW models can accommodate up to five personal eSIMs. User information is securely stored under their BMW ID, allowing for seamless transition across different eSIM-enabled BMW vehicles. Front-seat users can stream YouTube, while rear-seat passengers can enjoy content via the optional Theatre Screen—watching Netflix, Disney+, and more—turning the vehicle into a mobile entertainment hub.

Simple Activation, Flexible Usage

From now through December 31, first-time subscribers to “One Number for Car” can enjoy waived activation and download fees. For just NT$299 per month, users can extend their Taiwan Mobile number to compatible BMW models and activate the service through the in-car screen or the My BMW App.

All user data is associated with their BMW ID, and services can be transferred to other compatible BMW models via a downloadable transfer process. As more BMW vehicles adopt personal eSIM compatibility, Taiwan Mobile’s “One Number for Vehicle” will offer even greater flexibility for users.
