Taiwan Mobile has taken significant steps to reduce carbon emissions, reaching 100% renewable energy in its IDC cloud data centers in 2024—six years ahead of schedule. Leading the way in international carbon offset trends, the company actively promotes blue carbon restoration. At the same time, Taiwan Mobile leverages AI technology to enhance network resilience and user security, further strengthening its digital competitiveness. Chairman Daniel Tsai: Creating Value and Protecting the Future with Technology
Taiwan Mobile Chairman Daniel Tsai emphasized that the company’s recognition in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook reflects its dedication to ESG and serves as motivation for all employees to continue focusing on value creation, leveraging technology to safeguard a better future, and expanding sustainability initiatives and actions. The World Economic Forum's 2025 Global Risks Report highlights that climate crises, the loss of biodiversity, and social inequality are intensifying long-term risks. Taiwan Mobile is leveraging its core ICT capabilities to collaborate with industry, government, and academia in response to global environmental challenges. The company is not only investing in natural carbon offset research but is also spearheading the world’s first “Taiwan Blue Carbon Mangrove Restoration Project,” which focuses on one of the Earth’s largest carbon sinks. Taiwan Mobile is sponsoring 15 scholars and professors in conducting eight sub-projects, including the planting of 3,000 mangroves in an abandoned fishpond at Taijiang National Park in May. Each hectare of mangrove forest is expected to absorb 77 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, contributing to climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation, land revitalization, and national ecological protection.
Advancing Toward Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 Through Net Zero Tech, Energy Storage, and EV Charging
Taiwan Mobile has enhanced its climate-related disclosures by publishing TCFD reports and establishing a net-zero emissions target for 2050, becoming the first technology and telecommunications company in Asia to gain approval from the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company has already exceeded its initial goal of 10% renewable energy usage and aims to increase this to 17% by 2025. Taiwan Mobile is further expanding its renewable energy footprint through energy storage and net-zero technologies, supporting projects in geothermal energy, marine energy, and hydrogen-based clean energy. Additionally, it has partnered with HD Renewable Energy to enhance green energy applications at its operational sites and has joined the Fubon Green Power Investment Platform. Taiwan Mobile has also pledged to convert its entire corporate vehicle fleet to electric vehicles (EV100) by 2030 and is promoting its MyCharge EV charging service to accelerate electric vehicle adoption and reduce carbon emissions.
Embracing the AI Era: A New Generation of AI-Driven "Superhumans" and AI-powered fraud detection
Embracing the AI era, Taiwan Mobile has launched a “Superhuman Project,” fostering cross-disciplinary talent and integrating AI and Robotic Process Automation (RPA). The company promotes flexible work arrangements, offering a hybrid model that allows for 10 remote workdays each month. Additionally, it provides exceptional benefits, including a NT$120,000 childbirth allowance, 10 weeks of paid maternity leave, and an enhanced "Employee Stock Ownership Trust" program. Taiwan Mobile has also deployed AI-driven fraud prevention technologies such as “Anti-Fraud Police” mobile application and “Number Masking Service.” The company also promotes digital inclusion through initiatives like “Coding Fun in Rural Areas,” opening the door to technology knowledge for children. Furthermore, Taiwan Mobile has been driving the “Solar For Good” charity program for eight consecutive years, successfully installing 655 kW of solar power systems, which are projected to generate 14.04 million kWh of clean energy over 20 years, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 7,406 metric tons and creating an estimated NT$89.46 million in cumulative revenue.
