Taiwan Mobile is accelerating its progress toward the RE100 (Renewable Energy 100) initiative. Following its entry into the EV100 (Electric Vehicle 100%) in May this year, the company has announced its investment in WeMo Scooter, a leading electric scooter-sharing provider. Taiwan Mobile spearheaded the latest round of funding with an investment amounting to millions of U.S. dollars, supporting WeMo’s expansion into Taichung and Tainan, extending its services across Taiwan’s five major cities, and setting up rental and return stations at 17 Taiwan railways and high-speed rail stations. This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of shared electric vehicles and promote the electrification of transportation across the country. To promote the advantages of the shared economy, Taiwan Mobile has introduced the “Ride and Share for a Greener Earth” campaign. Beginning today, customers who subscribe to a 5G plan will receive a WeMo PASS voucher valid for 90 days. Starting September 1, customers who sign up for specific 4G plans will receive a WeMo PASS voucher for 60 days. This initiative aims to inspire more people to utilize shared vehicles and adopt eco-friendly transportation, working together to create a sustainable city.
Tony Lin: Taiwan Mobile's USPACE and WeMo Investments Boost Smart Transportation and Green Mobility
Taiwan Mobile Chief Consumer Business Officer Tony Lin said that motorcycles and cars in Taiwan are major contributors to land transport emissions. Electrifying vehicles is a crucial step toward achieving the 2050 net-zero emission target. Taiwan Mobile has incorporated carbon reduction into its business strategy, focusing on the shared mobility market through its “Taiwan Mobility” initiative. In addition to investing in the smart mobility platform USPACE, Taiwan Mobile leverages its technology and extensive customer base to offer shared parking, UDRIVE electric car sharing, and the one-stop charging operation service “MyCharge.” By spearheading this strategic investment in WeMo, Taiwan Mobile showcases its dedication to achieving net-zero emissions by promoting low-carbon transportation among consumers. This initiative aligns closely with the company's intensified efforts under the EV100 initiative, promoting the shift from ownership to sharing through electric vehicle services to help lower carbon emissions. Taiwan Mobile also plans to launch a subsidy program for employees to replace their personal vehicles with electric cars and motorcycles. This initiative aims to enhance its carbon reduction efforts while contributing to the development of a low-carbon, smart city and a sustainable future.
Jeffrey Wu, the founder and CEO of WeMo Scooter, highlighted that the latest funding round, led by Taiwan Mobile and other investors, will provide the resources needed to advance green energy-sharing vehicle technology. WeMo, in partnership with Taiwan Mobile— the first Taiwanese firm to join RE100 and commit to the EV100 initiative—will collaborate to promote electric vehicle-sharing services, facilitating a transformation in transportation. This partnership accelerates the transition from mobile communications to smart mobility, fostering a new low-carbon lifestyle throughout Taiwan. By integrating shared vehicle experiences into the daily lives of its citizens, it aims to promote sustainable transportation solutions for everyone.
