In May, mobile service revenue reached a new high since August 2019, with close to 5% YoY increase. Propelled by further 5G conversion and YoY growth in roaming revenue, smartphone postpaid ARPU rose YoY for the 24th consecutive month, by 2.3%. Coupled with revenue contribution from the fixed-line business, including data & access and cloud services, May telecom service revenue sustained its 6% YoY growth momentum and reached a 4-year high of nearly NT$4.1bn. For the first five months of the year, telecom operating income rose by 4% YoY.

 

Taiwan Mobile announced May 2023 unaudited consolidated revenue of NT$14.78bn, a 5% YoY increase, EBITDA of NT$2.95bn, operating income of NT$1.48bn, net income of NT$0.97bn, and EPS of NT$0.35. For the first five months of 2023, TWM reported unaudited consolidated revenue of NT$71.48bn, a 7% YoY increase, EBITDA of NT$14.49bn, operating income of NT$7.15bn, net income of NT$4.64bn and EPS of NT$1.65.

 

George Chang, Chief Financial Officer and Spokesperson commented that the Company issued its first social bond on May 22nd with a total amount of NT$6.5bn, a coupon rate of 1.537% and a tenure of 5 years, which allowed us to increase the proportion of our long-term borrowing. The proceeds will be used to continuously improve 5G coverage and 5G service penetration, as well as optimize network quality in mountainous areas. As part of our Telco+Tech strategy, Taiwan Mobile hosted the first-ever momobile members day on momo’s website on May 20th. We also expanded the momo coin ecosystem this month, allowing customers to use our online store to refill their prepaid cards with momo coins. Thanks to enhanced customer stickiness driven by our wide variety of products and services, postpaid churn remained at a low level of 0.73%.
