The International Data Corporation (IDC) announced the winners of the "2024 Future Enterprise Awards" on November 18. Taiwan Mobile President Jamie Lin was recognized as Taiwan's "CEO of the Year" for his "Beyond 5G" strategy, which integrates the "Telco+Tech" approach. Leveraging Taiwan Mobile's telecommunications expertise and AppWorks' startup resources, Jamie has successfully propelled the company forward in the AI era.
Additionally, under the "Taiwan Mobility" strategy, Taiwan Mobile strategically invested in the smart parking platform USPACE and expanded the electric vehicle (EV) charging service "MyCharge." This initiative focuses on user-centric design, seamlessly integrating EV charging into daily life to provide a one-stop "parking + charging" experience. These efforts earned Taiwan Mobile the "Special Award for Sustainability" in Taiwan, contributing to cleaner, smarter cities and accelerating the EV100 initiative. Representatives from Taiwan Mobile, including Chief Consumer Business Officer Tony Lin and Vice President of Carrier Business Naomi Lee, attended the award ceremony in Singapore.
Jamie Receives Taiwan's "CEO of the Year" Award: Leading 59% Revenue Growth Over Five Years
Taiwan Mobile President Jamie expressed his honor in receiving Taiwan's "CEO of the Year" award, attributing it to the collective efforts and innovative spirit of the entire team. Over the past year, Taiwan Mobile completed the merger with Taiwan Star Telecom, marking a historic consolidation in Taiwan's telecommunications industry and ushering in a new era of "value" competition. In October, Taiwan Mobile's overall telecommunications revenue reached its highest point since 2015, with operating profit increasing by 37% year-over-year. Amid the AI wave, the company continues to implement the "Telco+Tech" strategy, combining telecommunications expertise with AppWorks' startup partnerships to drive industry upgrades through AI, accelerating operational momentum.
Since assuming the role of President in 2019, Jamie, who is also Chairman and Partner of AppWorks, Asia's largest startup accelerator, has connected with startups and identified future trends. He introduced the "Beyond 5G" strategy, encompassing five key areas: Gift, Group, Grit, Green, and GSEA (Greater South East Asia). By integrating the group's leading e-commerce brand momo and AppWorks, and leveraging AI and big data capabilities, Taiwan Mobile has built a foundation of ten million users. Through the "Telco+Tech" approach, the company has expanded into various tech ventures, including telecommunications, fintech, gaming, the momobile ecosystem, and MyCharge. Innovative products like momobile, OP Life, and Double Play Plans have been launched to enhance user loyalty, resulting in a 7.1% year-over-year increase in ARPU for existing smartphone postpaid users in the first quarter.
Jamie has also promoted numerous win-win collaborations between Taiwan Mobile and AppWorks startups, extending into the Greater Southeast Asia market and responding to net-zero trends by developing tech ventures like MyCharge shared mobility. The company has formed strategic alliances with Systex Corporation to advance AI upgrades across industries, 5G private networks, and AIoT growth opportunities. Additionally, Taiwan Mobile has joined forces with telecommunications operators from multiple countries to establish the "Cross-Border Telco Rewards Alliance," offering cross-border services. These initiatives have successfully transformed Taiwan Mobile into a regional tech telecom group. Under Jamie's leadership, the company's revenue has grown by 59% compared to the year before his tenure, reversing a five-year decline in telecommunications revenue since 2016.
From Mobile to Mobility: Advancing "MyCharge" EV Charging Service and Expanding the EV100 Ecosystem
In response to net-zero trends, Taiwan Mobile has expanded from mobile communication services into the shared mobility market by launching the "MyCharge" EV charging service, integrating telecommunications technology. By connecting with startup resources, the company led a NT$200 million investment in Taiwan's integrated smart mobility service, USPACE. Through strategic partnerships with the USPACE app for smart parking management, one-click reservation of designated charging parking spaces, and UDrive Tesla rental services, Taiwan Mobile is accelerating the development of the EV industry. Currently, over 200 charging stations have been deployed across eight counties and cities in Taiwan.
Tony Lin, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Taiwan Mobile, expressed his honor in receiving the "Special Award for Sustainability" at the IDC 2024 Future Enterprise Awards for the company's new tech telecom ESG concept, "From Mobile to Mobility." This recognition follows the "Digital with Purpose Smart Cities Award" received at the DwP Global Summit in Portugal earlier this year, highlighting international acknowledgment of Taiwan Mobile's achievements in sustainable development and business innovation.
In May, Taiwan Mobile officially joined the "EV100" (Electric Vehicle 100%) global initiative, setting comprehensive commitments and additional actions. Through the "Telco+Tech" strategy, the company extends carbon reduction efforts into the shared mobility market, executing the "Taiwan Mobility" strategy with a concrete commitment to achieving 100% electrification of company vehicles by 2030. Internally, this includes full electrification of corporate vehicles and plans to launch subsidy programs for employees to purchase electric cars and motorcycles. Externally, Taiwan Mobile is dedicated to creating an EV-friendly environment by collaborating with industry partners like USPACE and WeMo to develop the one-stop charging service "MyCharge," promoting pure electric car and motorcycle sharing services, driving transportation transformation, and building the "EV100 Ecosystem."
