A Champion of the Telecommunications Industry-Taiwan Mobile Named as the Top 5 Winner of 2017 Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award

The awards ceremony for the CommonWealth Magazine's 2017“Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award” was held today (25th), and once again, Taiwan Mobile has achieved outstanding results. Among Taiwan's 200+ competitors, Taiwan Mobile was named No. 1 in the telecom industry and earned the 5th place rankings in the large enterprises category of 2017 “Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award”! This was Taiwan Mobile's 10th “Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award” since 2007; the Company's CSR performances have received wide recognition from domestic/international awards organizations. Taiwan Mobile is also known as the benchmark corporation in the area of CSR fulfillment.
 CommonWealth Magazine's “Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award” selects Taiwan's top-ranked corporate citizens based on the following four aspects: corporate governance, corporate commitment, social engagement, and environmental sustainability. Taiwan Mobile's efforts invested in fulfilling CSR have received positive reviews from the judging panel of the“Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award”; members of the panel stated that "Last year, Taiwan Mobile earned a spot in the DJSI by achieving a perfect score in the Corporate Citizenship and Philanthropy category. When participating in social engagement activities, the Company takes full advantage of its business advantages, which has a wide reach and capable of helping those in need, to create an innovative and continuous driving force to provide care for Taiwan's communities."
 During the awards ceremony, James Jeng, the President of Taiwan Mobile, expressed that Taiwan Mobile has been driving public services with its core resources and advanced technologies for many years. More than 20 new projects including cultivating digital content talent, elevating Taiwan's cultural and creative soft power, creating infinity digital welfare platforms, establishing digital influence, and helping community welfare groups develop cross-domain technologies for conducting public services have been launched. Taiwan Mobile is also Taiwan's first telecom supplier to announce its True Value and SROI. CSR investments made by Taiwan Mobile not only created an SROI which significantly exceeded the initial costs, they have also generated an amazing amount of external benefits for the corporation outside of the traditional business performance. Using 2015 as an example, Taiwan Mobile has generated more than NT$8 billion of external benefits with respect to economic, social, and environmental aspects, which dramatically increased the Company's True Value as well as generated a greater return for its stakeholders. This clearly shows that by fulfilling its CSR, Taiwan Mobile has "received a whole lot more than it has invested" to bring more positive energy to our society!
Taiwan Mobile has received numerous awards in the CSR field; however, more responsibilities come with more awards received. Taiwan Mobile uses becoming an international benchmark of corporate sustainability as its goal. Last year, Taiwan Mobile became Taiwan's first, Asia's third company to join the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI). With Taiwan Mobile's active participation, this August, the Company stood out among other international ICT corporations to become a new GeSI board member with the likes of other international corporations including AT&T, Deutsche TeleKom, Samsung, Telstra, Verizon, ETNO, and Swisscom. This was the first time that a corporate member from Asia has joined the GeSI board. Furthermore, Taiwan Mobile is going to host the 19th GeSI General Assembly taking place at the end of the year in Taipei. In the future, Taiwan Mobile will continue to connect globally in order to bear more responsibilities and showcase its achievements. The Company will strengthen its global leadership role in order to motivate more suppliers and stakeholders to work toward SDGs.
Taiwan Mobile is entering its 20th year in the business; it is the first telecom supplier to develop the "Sustainable Strategy Map". By using telecom, the Internet, media & entertainment, and E-commerce (T.I.M.E) as strategic targets, the Company will invest in six major capitals including financial capital, manufacturing capital, intellectual capital, human resources capital, social relations capital, and natural capital. The foundation of Taiwan Mobile's core operations is based upon the concept of "6C", which include coverage, convergence, cloud, content, channel, and CSR. 18 material issues corresponding to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been identified in order for us to answer to our eight major categories of stakeholders (employees, suppliers, competent authorities, community/NGO, customers, shareholders, the media, and rating agencies), as well as create seven featured values (ethical governance, sustainable partnerships, a superior brand, digital innovations, environmental sustainability, a happy workplace, and social inclusion) so that Taiwan Mobile can use becoming an "outstanding, pioneering and sustainable digital trendsetter" as its ultimate goal.
By fully implementing corporate governance practices, Taiwan Mobile is the leader of the telecom industry in profits made for five consecutive years (2012 - 2016). The Company has the best performance in the industry. In addition to focusing on the business achievements, CSR achievements are also included in the performance reviews of high level managers. In order to welcome the new era of 5G networks, Taiwan Mobile believes that a company must continue to innovate in order to march ahead. This year, the "Innovation Management Committee" was established to help drive the Company forward. In terms of social inclusion, Taiwan Mobile has been selected as a constituent stock in the Emerging Market Index by the DJSI for five consecutive years. Last year, the Company even scored a perfect 100 points in the Corporate Citizenship and Philanthropy category, which far exceeded the average score of the world's telecom suppliers (52 points); helping Taiwan's corporations reach the world's top ranking status. When dealing with challenges involving global climate change, Taiwan Mobile is also Taiwan's first telecom company who supports the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). In 2016, Taiwan Mobile received a grade of "A-" in the CDP leadership index, which was the best performance among Taiwan's telecom suppliers.
